Housing Engagement Worker

Position: Housing Engagement Worker – Central

Pay: £10.78 per hour

Location: Central, Norwich

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours per week: 37.5 hours per week on a 4 week rolling rota – Shifts from 7:45am – 10:15pm over 7 days.

Job Role: 

  • To provide an environment for residents with a programme of positive activities, that is safe, supportive and secure, to address the variety of barriers young people face. Ensuring residents feel included in the needs, risk and planning of the service they will receive, to move through a pathway to more independent living. Whilst on duty, to provide support to other staff in the service and to ensure the health and safety, security and well-being of service users, staff and visitors.

What you’ll need to succeed:

Knowledge of housing legislation including tenancy management and the issues facing homeless young people. An understanding of needs and risk assessments and knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Young People. You will need previous experience of working in a support or housing setting and the ability to implement restorative and possession procedures to respond to anti-social behaviour and breaches of tenancy.  You will need to be willing to work unsocial hours.

Nursery Nurse

Hours:                   Up to 38 hrs per week (flexible)

Pay:                       £9.13 per hour

Location: Muddy Puddles Nursery, Norwich

Responsible to: Nursery Room Lead


Job Purpose: This job is responsible for supporting the Room Supervisor and/or Deputy Nursery Manager in providing a high-quality nursery provision, catering for children aged from 2 months to 5 years, at the Nursery. The nursery is committed to the overarching aim of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework which guides the work of all our early years’ practitioners. The primary focus of the role is to deliver a range of high quality creative and developmental nursery activities in line with policies and practice of the Nursery that meet standards and regulatory requirements.

YMCA Norfolk provides housing and family support in the county of Norfolk and we have
done so since 1856 we work with local authorities and social housing providers to offer
housing for vulnerable young people homeless or at risk of homelessness. We also provide
family support to those in need through local schools and within family homes. We offer
sports and youth clubs in the county of Norfolk to give young people a place to go and
socialise and get fit. We are proud of our heritage and ability to provide support to those in
need.

In April 2021 we opened Muddy Puddles Nursery to provide care and learning
opportunities for the families and young children of Norwich. This service will offer families
childcare from birth to 5, offering a wide range of activities, support and communications
during their early years.


The key elements of the post are to:


a) Work as a member of the nursery team, showing initiative
and creativity and fostering an environment which
encourages the children’s all-round development and
where high standards of care are provided
b) Act as a keyworker to allocated children
c) Encourage the participation of parents and carers
d) Work towards and achieve the agreed Key Performance
Indicators and performance objectives and ensure a high
level of service is always provided.

Future progression to Nursery Room Leader may be possible following a proven period in this role.

Press Release: CEO Tim Sweeting steps into new role with the Diocese of Norwich

A new Diocesan Secretary for the Diocese of Norwich has been announced today. Tim Sweeting, currently CEO of YMCA Norfolk, will be taking up the position with the Norwich Diocesan Board of Finance (NDBF) in August this year.

The Rt Revd Graham Usher, Bishop of Norwich said:

“I am delighted that Tim Sweeting has been appointed as the next Diocesan Secretary. This role encompasses being a strategic leader, a service-focused manager, a wise steward, an enabler of good governance and a passionate ambassador to help our parishes and chaplaincies to flourish.

“Tim is already an experienced and much respected charity leader in Norfolk with a passion for people to know Jesus. His own Christian discipleship, together with his commitment to mission, will mean that he will bring much to our life together in the Diocese of Norwich.”

Tim Sweeting commented:

“I am excited to be joining the Diocese of Norwich at such an important moment. Local churches make an incredible difference in their communities and I am looking forward to working with diocesan colleagues to support the wonderful, committed people who enable that to happen in so many rich and diverse ways.

“I feel privileged to have led an incredible team at YMCA Norfolk who have enabled transformation in the lives of countless young people and families over these last 12 years. I pray that the foundations we have built, including the new YMCA on Aylsham Road in Norwich, will support the charity, and those it serves, for many years to come.”

Tim Sweeting

A graduate of the University of East Anglia, Tim has spent 22 years working for YMCA, the last 12 as Chief Executive of YMCA Norfolk. A Lay Canon of Norwich Cathedral since 2017 and Vice Chair of the Mitre Benefice Parochial Church Council, Tim also holds leadership positions with Norfolk Museums Development Foundation, The Wherry School, and Theatre Royal, Norwich.

YMCA Chair, Philip Macdonald said:

“It has been a privilege to have Tim serve as CEO of YMCA Norfolk for the past 12 years. He has led with a clear sense of purpose and has been unwavering in his determination to see young people given the opportunity to be the best that they can be. He has served with a real Godliness and true humility touching the lives of so many people both at YMCA Norfolk and beyond. We are so grateful for all he has done, and we know he will be a real blessing in his new role.” 

Chair of the Norwich Diocesan Board of Finance, Mark Jeffries, added:

“The impact of Tim’s energy and determination in his 12 years as CEO of Norfolk YMCA has been hugely impressive. I am very much looking forward to working with him as he brings that energy and determination to the work of the diocese.”

Explorers Soft Play Assistant

In May 2021, YMCA Norfolk will be launching their new Community Hub in the heart of Norwich on Aylsham Road. The beautifully renovated Jubilee Hall aims to provide a space to welcome individuals, families and friends through its crafted areas for all including: the community café, a children’s nursery, youth clubs, a soft play centre and on site pastoral support.

Position: Explorers Soft Play Assistant

Pay: £8.91 per hour

Contract Type: Permanent

Location:  Explorers Soft Play, Aylsham Road, Norwich

Hours per week:  1 x 14 hr per week role and 1 x 17 hr per week role (predominantly shifts will be weekends and possibly weekday afternoons but may be subject to change)

Job Role:

  • To supervise the soft play facilities. To set up and maintain a safe and clean environment for clients. To help co-ordinate children’s parties and assist with catering provision.
