Kevin to cycle coast-to-coast for YMCA Norfolk

13th July 2017 by Keith Morris

YMCA Norfolk Housing Support Worker Kevin Dynes is setting off on the latest in a long list of charity challenges on July 29 when he aims to cycle from coast to coast along the 215 miles of the Trans Pennine Trail in five days with friend Adam Clarke of Drayton Windows.

Kevin and Adam, both from Norwich, will be bike packing roughly 50 miles each day and camping overnight in tents. They will travel up to Southport near Liverpool where they will then head along the Trans Pennine Trail from West to East Coast finishing at Hornsea in Yorkshire before riding back down to Hull to leave for home.

The five-day ride will be mostly off-road along the trail which includes canal paths, riversides, disused railway lines, minor roads and urban cycle paths.

Over the past few years Kevin has cycled 360 miles in four days, completed a parachute jump, slept out overnight in a cardboard box, organised a 100-mile ride around Norfolk in a day and has undertaken other smaller fundraising and awareness raising activities, all in aid of YMCA Norfolk.

Kevin said: “As with my other challenges, I will be completing this to raise money and awareness for work carried out by YMCA Norfolk which this year is celebrating supporting people in Norfolk for 160 years.

“YMCA Norfolk provides a safe place to stay for around 240 young homeless people every single night in Norfolk and people are often surprised by this figure! The charity also runs various other projects including families’ work, youth work, and mental health courses that are going on all the time to support vulnerable young people and our communities in Norfolk.

“I have seen the direct positive impact that work carried out by YMCA Norfolk’s team has had on young people, communities and families alike and I’m really passionate about the work we do. I am very proud to be a part of such a forward thinking, diverse, caring and professional charity and like to do all I can to support funding and raising awareness”
