YMCA Norfolk’s Umbrella housing service in Norwich has been announced as a finalist in the 2016 Jewson Building Better Communities competition.
After beating over 1,800 nominated projects as part of a national competition, it’s made it to this stage, and now it needs your help to secure a share of the £100,000 regional prize fund.
YMCA Norfolk is appealing to members of the local community to get behind the project to refurbish four kitchens in some of its Umbrella housing service accommodation by casting their vote on the Jewson Facebook page.
Umbrella Housing provides a safe home for 34 single parent families with young children. YMCA Norfolk’s Stef Pearson said: “We are committed to providing homes to help empower and inspire families to overcome difficulties they have faced and to give them the chance to move on in their lives.
“We are seeking to make major improvements and renovate four kitchens within our Umbrella service. This will enable each parent and child to enjoy the benefits of a quality family living space and provide a good family home for many future families who are at a point of crisis.”
The project will cost £4,800. Each kitchen requires new base and wall units and worktops. The refurbished kitchens also will include new a kitchen sink, taps and redecoration.
If successful, YMCA Norfolk will be awarded a regional prize for building materials from Jewson.
“We would ask all of our supporters and staff to get behind us and vote so that we can continue this important project,” said Stef.
People have until June 19 to vote for their local project. Votes can be cast via the Jewson Facebook page.
