Abigail Canham, our Head of Housing recently took on the Jurassic Coast Weekend walk, raising over £200 towards YMCA Norfolk’s work supporting young people.
The Jurassic Coast trek started in Durlston Head finishing in Durdle Door covering 23 miles over two days along the beautiful hilly coat of Dorset.
Coinciding with National Walking Month Abi explained why she decided to take on the challenge. “I was inspired to do a trek for YMCA after spending some time in the Malvern Hills whilst attending YMCA Unify. As it is YMCA Norfolk’s 160th anniversary year, I wanted to take on something that was a bit of a challenge, raise money and awareness of our mission to transform young lives.
“Young people in our communities are facing more adversity and challenges in our modern day society and through this trip I want to not just raise cash, but awareness of the potential and value of enabling the next generations to lead successful and happy lives.
“In our 160th year we reflect back on decades of amazing and life changing work rooted in the ideas of George Williams, a Christian man who saw suffering in our society and decided to take action to ease that suffering. Being part of that legacy inspires me everyday.
“The weekend was not just about raising money but also awareness and a celebration of all the amazing work the YMCA team do, providing support to children, young people and families.”
Huge congratulations to Abi and her partner Glen, upon completing the walk Abi said “Well we did it! What an incredible beautiful coastline. Covered 30 miles over the 2 days in total! Struggled with some of the inclines but made it in the end. Thank you to all of those who have sponsored me so far”.

Other supporters and members of staff have already signed up for sky dives, team hikes, bike rides and marathons as part of Challenge 160.
This year, YMCA Norfolk is marking 160 years of service to the Norfolk community, and it hopes to find 160 people to join in the challenge, doing whatever kind of activity they enjoy to raise some much needed funds for its vital work with homeless and vulnerable young people across the county.
People can sign up for any organised charitable event and then donate their sponsorship to YMCA Norfolk or create their very own charity challenge. Find our more about Challenge 160 here.
