YMCA duo throw down 160km Norfolk cycle challenge

15th May 2016 by Keith Morris

Two YMCA Norfolk colleagues are appealing for others to join them in a one-day 160km cycle ride challenge across Norfolk to raise cash for the Christian charity’s 160th Anniversary Appeal.

Families/Housing Support Worker Kev Dynes and Tenancy Assessment Worker Joe Bickerdike, both cycled the 360 miles from the Lake District to central London last year in the Tour De Y event and were so inspired that they have decided to stage their own event around Norfolk on Bank Holiday Saturday May 28.

Kev said: “We have organised the charity ride to coincide with YMCA Norfolk’s 160th anniversary and to raise awareness and funds to further support vulnerable young people at risk of homelessness in Norfolk.

TourDeYKevinSelfie450“We are riding 160km (100 miles) in a day, around Norfolk and its beautiful coastline, stopping at other YMCA sites to highlight our presence. We will be starting at Norwich YMCA Central next to Norwich Bus Station and hoping to finish thee about ten hours later.”

The proposed route will include Caister-on-Sea, Hemsby, Mundsley, Cromer and Sheringham. Stopping point will include Hall Quay (YMCA Great Yarmouth), Bacton sea-front and Holt (YMCA England shop).

“Joe and I are both employees of YMCA Norfolk and are passionate about the work that the charity does throughout Norfolk, directly affecting and hopefully improving communities and the lives of people in Norfolk,” said Kev.

“We’re hoping for 10-20 riders to sign up and have a confirmed five so far with a small registration fee of £30 just to cover expenses. I have set myself a target of £600 and hope others will raise cash too.
