Room Sponsorship

Give someone in your area a place to call home

Every year over 100,000 young people aged 16-24 ask their local council for aid with homelessness. Our Room Sponsorship is about much more than what these young people need to survive, it’s about what the opportunities they need to thrive.

By sponsoring a room you will help fund the extra services that we provide for young people. Room Sponsors support young people towards a brighter future by giving them the opportunity to develop the skills they need to move on with their lives.

Our Room Sponsorship scheme gives you the chance to help a homeless person transform their life. For as little as 40p a day (£12 a month) you can help ensure that a homeless young person help they need to turn their life around.

Become a Room Sponsor

Many young people become homeless through no fault of their own; the main ‘trigger’ for youth homelessness is family breakdown and for many young people this is a consequence of long-term conflict, violence or neglect. In the UK alone, one young person is left homeless every hour.

Young people without suitable housing are amongst the most vulnerable in our society. When a young person becomes homeless they are often extremely lonely, isolated and vulnerable. Without support their life can easily descend into one of poverty, exclusion and potential exploitation. Homeless people often have problems staying in education, training or employment but they also face difficulties, including low self-esteem, poor health and, in some cases they develop mental health problems.

Help young people like James

“YMCA has given me a second chance at my life.” – James

James came to YMCA Norfolk after experiencing troubles whilst living at home with his Mum, who has Bipolar Disorder, and feeling like it was affecting his own mental health and causing him to struggle in school.

“YMCA has given me the second chance at my life, so that I can have a better quality of life and learn to stand on my own. It has given the chance to build on my independence skills that I would not of got the chance do to if I was at home. I am proud of how far I have come in a short space of time.”

James is now rebuilding his life, but he is just one of many young people who need vital support now. Become a Room Sponsor and give more young people a chance to turn their lives around.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your £12 will go towards supporting:
– Health support and advice for young people
– One-to-one personal guidance and support
– Life skills training for independent living
– Group sessions with the opportunity for self-expression
– Encouragement back into education, training or employment

The true cost of a room and the additional support services which we offer to residents in YMCA Norfolk accommodation, is more than £12 a month. However, by having a community of committed supporters giving to us monthly, we will be able to plan better and do more to change the lives of vulnerable young people across Norfolk.

The reason monthly donations are so valuable to us is that allows us to plan our services, based on a set income. However, all donations make a difference. We understand that not everyone is able to donate on a monthly basis therefore we also have the option to make a one-off donation.

When you become a Room Sponsor not only are you giving a vulnerable young person a home, you are giving them a second chance. Your £12 a month goes directly towards transforming young lives across Norfolk by giving them somewhere safe to live and where they can flourish.
