Homeless woman

Need Help?

If you are concerned about the health of a person experiencing homelessness, or if they look unwell, dial 999 for the emergency services.

Your intervention could save someone’s life.

What to do if you see someone sleeping rough

We recommend you contact StreetLink, the rough sleeper referral service for England and Wales. You can either call 0300 500 0914, visit streetlink.org.uk or download their app from the Apple or Google Play store.

StreetLink staff will then be able to connect rough sleepers with local street outreach teams or other support groups in the local area. The service accepts calls from the public and self-referrals from current rough sleepers.

What to do if you or someone you know is worried about becoming homeless

If you’ve recently become homeless, or there is a risk of that happening, it’s important to get the right advice. The first thing you will need to do is to get in touch with your local council as soon as possible.

For independent advice, you can contact Shelter or Citizen’s Advice.

The following links will provide you with contact details and more information for your local council:

  • Broadland & South Norfolk District Council
  • Breakland Council
  • Great Yarmouth Borough Council
  • Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council
  • North Norfolk District Council
  • Norwich City Council

If you need someone to listen

The Samaritans offer a free 24-hour listening service on 116 123.

They offer a safe place for you to talk any time you like, in your own way – about whatever’s getting to you.

They won’t judge your or tell you what to do, they will listen.

Visit the Samaritan’s Website

How can YMCA Norfolk help?

Our main focus is on providing young people with individually based support in Norwich, Great Yarmouth and Kings Lynn, that aim to keep them safe from homelessness over the long-term.

For anyone seeking accommodation we recommend they first contact their local council who can make a referral to YMCA Norfolk.

The Mancroft Advice Project (MAP) can also make referrals to YMCA Norfolk. They offer host drop in sessions in Norwich, Kings Lynn and Great Yarmouth where they can work with you to submit a referral.
