Frequently Asked Questions

Many of the young people who access the service have had difficult relationships with their parents. Others are fleeing violent situations, have had a relationship breakdown or have lost their tenancies. Norfolk Nightstop provides them with a safe home whilst they begin to engage with services that address their longer term housing needs.

Every young person is supported on a daily basis through contact with the Norfolk Nightstop team. Also, the young people will have access to a 24 hour, Out Of Hours support service.

Yes! All volunteer hosts receive basic training. Basic training includes Child Protection Awareness; YMCA Norfolk policies and procedures, Professional Boundaries, Confidentiality etc.

Yes, the Norfolk Nightstop team is also there to support you whilst you are hosting a young person.  Beyond that support workers have a manager and a member of the executive team with oversight of the service so there is a robust infrastructure behind how we look after you. You will also have access to the 24 hour, Out of Hours support service.

Yes, anyone who lives in the house where Norfolk Nightstop is provided undergo the same checks.  This will only work where the whole household ‘is on board’.

You will always receive full support from the Norfolk Nightstop team. Volunteer host training includes what to do in case of an incident or emergency.  We will work closely together to address any bumps in the road as soon as they arise.  As a volunteer host you will receive daily support from a member of the Norfolk Nightstop Plus team during the period that you host a young person and there are regular reviews to see how the service is working out for you.

Young people accessing the service will be referred to Norfolk Nightstop from 1-5 nights. For the sake of continuity of support, we ask volunteer hosts to provide 5 nights for a young person but we will work with you on whatever is possible. Stays longer than 5 nights would only be at the agreement of the volunteer host.

Expenses of £10.52 per night are available for volunteer hosts to claim.
