Young people and staff from YMCA Norfolk travelled to Birmingham this week to take part in the national YMCA 175 Heritage Expedition and Training Programme.
The group took part in a 3-day workshop, which included a wide range of activities to introduce young people to the exciting heritage of the YMCA; from delving into the charity’s inspiring history, to visiting the YMCA archives in the Cadbury Research Centre.
Jade Prentice, YMCA Norfolk Youth Engagement Worker – who also works for the ‘Kick the Dust’ project, accompanied the group and thanked the training provider – Ken – for his informative and engaging sessions. Jade added: “the group are going home with lots of new knowledge!”
This year YMCA England and Wales landmarks their 175th anniversary of serving communities across the country. To celebrate the occasion, YMCA has invited staff and young people from all over the world to a global youth event held at the ExCel in London, this August. The event will “have elements of a conference, summit and celebration, that will be a living embodiment of YMCA, bringing together thousands of young leaders and YMCA senior leaders and networks from around the world.”
